Belgium is Design – Belgian designers in the spotlight at Maison & Objet
It was a lovely encounter at the exhibition with the selection of Belgian designers gathered under the aegis of Belgium is Design, a label of Belgian creativity abroad initiated by Wallonie-Bruxelles Design/Mode.
Taking place alongside Alain Berteau – who unveiled Objekten, his new editing company – and the vivacious Alain Gilles who presented the BuzziHub by Buzzispace, was the cream of Belgian design including Damien Gernay and his elegant furniture series Bloated, which we presented last year, or Raphael Charles, a young and very sensitive designer.
The chance to (re)-discover Just, his multi-purpose felt bag, or his ‘Multiple’ modular coffee table, a 2010 piece consisting of a set of elements made of lacquered solid beech and coated with magnets, which allow to decompose and recompose the desired shapes. (The first prototype of this table in the form of a map of Belgium is notably set up in the royal palace and is now part of Prince Philippe’s private collection.)
