‘House DS’ home in Belgium by Graux & Baeyens architecten

For this house from the 70s inspired by local farmhouses, the order was to provide more space and light, and to implement contemporary fittings.

Far from the total rehabilitation initially envisaged by the owners, the team from studio Graux & Baeyens architecten based in the Belgian town of Ghent worked on an extension, playing on the contrasts between traditional and modern architecture.

Four volumes defining new living spaces were added (one includes a covered terrace), resulting in a complete redesigning of the building’s rear. A fifth volume, housing the pool house, is separated from the others by the garden.

On the inside, old spaces mix with the new, and at the heart of the refurnishing stands an impressive continuous cupboard that isolates and separates the kitchen and living room from the rest of the house, integrating several well-chosen features on the way (storage spaces in the kitchen, fireplace , library, doors leading to the other rooms…)
