The Padac – Decorative and Contemporary Arts course – From 11 to 20 October in Paris

Now a must attend event, the PADAC – Decorative and Contemporary Arts course – will take place from Thursday 11th to Saturday 20th October at the heart of the Parisian galleries’ district on the left bank… Media partner Yookô tells you a little more about the event through its organiser, Carlos Moïta…

Carlos, this is already the Padac’s Vth edition from 11th to 20th October. Could you tell us a bit more about this event for those who don’t know it yet?

Our event brings together twenty-five Left Bank galleries in order to present their new exhibitions and acquisitions.

This Vth edition – anniversary – places the Padac at a key moment on the calendar of contemporary and decorative art fairs and exhibitions in Paris. Collectors, enthusiasts and art lovers will be able to « hunt chicly for antiques » in the Padac galleries. No auction fights here as in classic salerooms, the prices are indicated and subtly negotiable…

What kind of pieces can one expect to find on the Padac?

Fourteen exhibitions will be visible during the course. They cover fields as varied as contemporary and XXth century ceramics, designer furniture and luminaries, graphic works such as drawing or painting, tapestry or glassware… It is a fairly all-round panel of the different mediums of artistic expression that will be presented.

What’s new for the 2012 edition?

This year the Padac takes a more prominent position on the calendar of art fairs and shows in Paris. In the past a one evening preview, today a ten-day course to give visitors the time to discover all the works and exhibitions.
New partners are also supporting our event: Connaissance des Arts and Le Bistro de Paris alongside l’Officiel des galeries et des musées , l’Ecole EAC, Basil Studio and of course Yooko.fr…

Any new participating galleries?

Participating for the first time are the PAOL Gallery with an exhibition of drawings and works by designer Martine Bedin, the MCM gallery with an exhibition of ceramics and sculptures by Belgian artist Sophie Nyns or the JLS Silbereis gallery with its ceramics by Belgian artist Antoine De Vinck. The May gallery also enters the Padac and reveals its chic and contemporary seventies revival ambiences with custom-made furniture. As for Michèle Hayem Ivasilevitch, she will be presenting contemporary ceramics and sculptures as well as designer furniture.

Your favourites?!…

It is quite difficult to have to choose among the exhibitions and works presented… As a collector of ceramics, my first crushes are for arts of fire, which will be well represented within the galleries mentioned above as well as in the galleries of Jean-François Dubois (works by Guidette Carbonell) and Gabrielle Laroche (works by Monica Machado).

More specifically for Yookô’s readership, discovering the luminaries by artist Philippe Cholet at the Alb Antiquités gallery or the seats by designer Marco Zanuso at the Edouard De Marque gallery seem like a must-do. Also to be discovered are the armchairs by famous artists and designers selected by the RCM galleries (pair of armchairs by designer Michel Mangmatin), Didier Jean-Nénert (pair of armchairs by Olivier Mourgue from the Elysée Palace), Jacques Lafon-Michael Vosseler (armchairs by André Arbus, who was presented at the 34th Salon des Artistes Décorateurs in 1948) as well as the luminaries presented at the Laurent Dubois gallery (pair of wall lamps by Philippe Agostini) and the XXth century chandeliers and wall lamps of the William Vothron gallery…

Rendez-vous on Thursday, October 11th from 5pm for th opening of this Vth edition…
