The Shredded Collection – Design by Jens Praet for Industry Gallery

As the Carnegie Museum of Art of Pittsburgh in the United States has just acquired the side table version of the range, we take another look at the Shredded Collection, one of the flagship creations of Belgian designer Jens Praet.

A series of 5 furniture pieces – bench, table, shelf, console and side table – edited in a limited series in 2011 by the Industry Gallery of Washington, and whose singularity derives from the used material: an original blend of shredded recycled paper and a transparent resin specifically developed for the project. Each piece is made from unsold copies of a same magazine (Art in America, Capitol File…), which then gives its name to the piece created. The white versions, in turn, combine confidential documents and white resin.

A collection that materialises many years of research by the designer now based in Italy near Florence, and whose central idea was that « paper waste should return into our living or working spaces in the form of functional furniture »…
