The Zieta collection at Maison & Objet for the first time
Three years ago, Oskar Zieta was causing a sensation with his Plopp stool… An iconic piece unveiling a revolutionary technology developed over many years by the engineer and his acolyte, Philippe Dohmen.
The process, called FIDU (Freie InnenDruckUmformung – Free Inner Pressure Deformation), begins with the laser cutting of two sheet metal patterns, whose outlines are then welded together. Next, air – or another matter under pressure – is introduced inside in order to shape the volume of the piece. If the 2D production phase is 100% controlled, the deformation process of the sheet metal, meanwhile, escapes the designer’s mastery to a certain extent, making each piece a unique product, despite a serial production.
Today, the perfectly controlled process allows Zieta to offer a very complete collection: Osiem lamp, Tatarak coat hanger, Chippensteel chair, Drab ladder or Kamm coat hook…
A production that alternates between pieces in series and limited editions made of special materials like copper, polished stainless steel or aluminum.
